David Corenswet was chosen as the replacement for Henry Cavill after Cavill exited the franchise following James Gunn’s takeover of DC Studios and the decision to initiate a soft reboot. Corenswet is set to make his debut as Superman in July 2025. His selection sparked some controversy, but the excitement surrounding his casting has continued to grow.
While Corenswet’s role in Twisters was far from that of Superman, director Lee Isaac Chung mentioned that something changed after Corenswet’s audition for the superhero role. He shared with The Hollywood Reporter:
"He was doing some auditions for ‘Superman’ while we were filming, and David is the type of actor who keeps a little bit of his character within himself while he’s working through the day. He’s not full-out method, but he just has a bit of that [character’s] persona to him. And when he came back from auditions in L.A., he came back as Superman. I saw Clark Kent in the way that he smiled at me and in the way he talked to me, and I realized, ‘Oh, he brought that audition back.’"
The filmmaker also mentioned that he had a vision of Corenswet as Superman and suspected that he had secured the role upon his return from the auditions.
Twisters is currently playing in theaters.
