Selena Gomez revealed that she is unable to carry children due to health complications, explaining that pregnancy would pose a serious risk to her life.

Selena Gomez, star of "Only Murders In The Building," recently revealed that her ongoing health issues make it unsafe for her to carry her own children. In an interview with Vanity Fair, published Monday, Gomez discussed the challenges she faces due to her health while also reflecting on her role as a young mother in the upcoming crime-musical film Emilia Pérez.

Gomez, 32, who has been open about her battle with lupus, shared that her condition poses significant risks if she were to carry a pregnancy to term. “I haven’t ever said this, but unfortunately, I can’t carry my own children,” Gomez explained. “I have a lot of medical issues that would put my life and the baby’s in jeopardy. That was something I had to grieve for a while.”

While Gomez didn’t go into detail about specific complications, she has previously undergone a kidney transplant and chemotherapy as part of her treatment for lupus. This autoimmune disease can cause organ damage. According to the Lupus Foundation of America, although pregnancy is possible for people with lupus, it carries heightened risks, including kidney problems, blood clots, and preeclampsia.

Despite the challenges, Gomez said she has found peace with alternative ways of becoming a parent, such as surrogacy and adoption. “I find it a blessing that wonderful people are willing to do surrogacy or adoption, which are both huge possibilities for me,” she said. “It made me really thankful for the other outlets for people dying to be moms. I’m one of those people.”

Gomez added that her own mother was adopted and emphasized that no matter how her future children come into her life, "it’ll be my baby.”
