Angelina Jolie experienced an emotional moment at the Venice Film Festival on Thursday.
The Oscar-winning actress attended the premiere of her latest film, "Maria," where she received an overwhelming and reportedly lengthy standing ovation. The applause moved Jolie to the point of tears, as she was seen wiping her eyes while descending a staircase in the theater, according to video footage.
Director Pablo Larraín and co-stars Alba Rohrwacher and Pierfrancesco Favino joined Jolie at the event.
"Maria" is a biopic in which Jolie stars as Maria Callas, one of the most renowned opera singers in history. Set in 1970s Paris, the film explores the tragic and tumultuous final days of Callas’ life. Following its Venice premiere, the film has already sparked Oscar buzz.
