 Norwegian Crown Princess's Son Accused of Second Rape Amid Ongoing Investigation

Marius Borg Høiby, the 27-year-old son of Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit, has been accused of a second rape, just days after being arrested on suspicion of a similar offense.

During a detention hearing at the Oslo District Court on Wednesday regarding the initial allegation, police prosecutor Andreas Kruszewski confirmed that Oslo Police District had requested Høiby be held in custody for two weeks. This followed the emergence of a second alleged rape uncovered during their investigation.

“The reason for this request is the discovery of another rape case overnight and into this morning, identified within the investigative material,” Oslo police said in a statement on Thursday. Authorities are now conducting a thorough investigation into the newly revealed incident.

According to the police, the second case involves sexual activity—though not intercourse—with a woman deemed unable to resist the act. “This means we are now investigating two rape cases involving Marius Borg Høiby,” they added. Under Norway's penal code, such an offense carries a maximum prison sentence of 10 years.

Høiby was first arrested on Monday night, suspected of engaging in a sexual act with an unconscious individual or one unable to resist, police reported earlier in the week. The initial alleged victim, a woman in her 20s, was not acquainted with Høiby before meeting him on the day of the incident, her lawyer, Hege Salomon, confirmed.

Høiby’s lawyer, Øyvind Bratlien, stated that his client has only admitted to causing bodily harm to a former girlfriend, damaging her apartment, and making threats. “For the other circumstances, he does not admit criminal guilt,” Bratlien told on Thursday.

Norway’s Crown Prince Haakon addressed the matter publicly, telling the national broadcaster NRK that the situation is deeply affecting everyone close to Høiby. “These are serious accusations that Marius is now facing. Today, we are, of course, thinking of all those involved,” he said, adding that he trusts the police and judicial system to handle the case appropriately.

Marius Borg Høiby is the son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit from a previous relationship before her 2001 marriage to Crown Prince Haakon. He is not in Norway’s royal line of succession.
