"Lee Jung-jae responds to The Acolyte's cancellation: 'I was quite surprised'"

Lee Jung-jae’s character, Master Sol, played a crucial role in the first season of The Acolyte, which — SPOILER ALERT! — concluded with his dramatic death, being Force-choked by his former Padawan, Osha (Amandla Stenberg). Although his character's journey seemingly ended, unless flashbacks or Force Ghost appearances were planned, Lee still had thoughts on the show's cancellation, which he shared with Entertainment Weekly.

"As you know, my character had already died in the first season," Lee explained. "So I wouldn’t have appeared in a second season if there was one. But personally, I really loved Leslye's writing. I thought she was a great writer and director, incredibly talented in storytelling, character development, and creating meaningful structures within the story. I was genuinely looking forward to seeing what she would do with a second season."

The Emmy-winning Squid Game actor had expected to see a second season and expressed disappointment over its cancellation: "I was quite surprised when I heard the news."

However, like many fans, Lee remains hopeful for the show's future, not unlike the resilient characters in Star Wars who never give up. "Honestly, I hope there might be changes in the future," he said. "Because you never know what’s going to happen. On a personal level, I really hope we could get to see more of Leslye's vision in a second season."

Fans who were eager for more of the show's compelling characters, including Darth Plagueis, Yoda, and Manny Jacinto's character, share Lee's hope, especially for an episode exploring Bazil's origin story.
